WATCH Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Insightful Honorary Degree Acceptance Speech
Nigerian Novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was recently honoured with an honorary degree at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Chimamanda gave an insightful and speech on feminism and writing, while accepting the award.
She spoke about how writing was her first love and about the things that move her being an added advantage.
She read an excerpt from her new book “Dear Ijeawele, Or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions,” which is a letter she wrote after she was asked by a friend who just birthed a baby how the child could be raised a feminist.
“Teach Chizalum about difference,” Adichie began, reading the fifteenth suggestion. “Make difference ordinary.”
“She must know and understand that people walk different paths in this world, and that as long as those paths do no harm to others, they are valid paths that she must respect,” the suggestion went on.
